'tis the season

Man am I EVER in the mood to sew!! I went to quilting group last night and got mom's quilt all cut out and the strips sewn together. Now for more cutting and piecing =)
My darling niece's quilt is all pieced and boarder on, now just need the batting (which i have no money for!) so i will work on my momma's quilt in the meantime. Honestly the speed I was sewing at last night was making some of the other ladies laugh, especially because of the static the friction was producing. I had some lovely fly away hairs LOL
Very excited to share that I am a part time seamstress at a very nice men's suit shop. just started there this past weekend. No longer working as a telemarketer, and just waiting to hear back from the car rental place. This girl will be rolling in dough haha! Well, more like the bill collectors will stop calling. They call just as often as my dear mom; practically everyday!
I've found a new love to sew, COFFEE SLEEVES!!!! easy easy to make, yet can be so individual and unique; made a Simpsons one for my man! anywho, check out my facebook fanpage. progress update!

Well, more than half way done piecing together my dear nieces quilt. hopefully she will get it for christmas this year! i'm so glad i found out about that church quilting group, it's nice to be able to sit with like 20 other women who enjoy quilting & sewing as much as i do and be able to go at it for 3 or 4 hours =)
With the holidays coming up, I'm going to get all my mending & UFO's (unfinished projects) outta the way, then to start on a beautiful outfit for the holiday season: my favorite, demin trousers, with a short sleeve button up collared blouse. I've been on a mad hunt for new demin trousers, i had two pairs, one wore right out and the other, well they got too big =D i finally give up, i'll make a pair, i'd have to alter the waist anyways, so here goes....

PS I got a brand new camera, so there will be progress pictures from now on. *NOTE TO SELF* water bottle and electronics do NOT belong in the same bag lol

Store Name Ideas?

I'm signing up for an account on Zibbet and am stuck on a store name =(
I would love some help deciding on a name. To give you some ideas, My clothing label name will be F-B*mb...my focus for now is purses, ties, quilts & pillows, PJs, halloween costumes, garter belts, baby accessories. Once I'm a fashion designer, my focus will shift a little more to jeans, trendy tops, eye catching baby & men's wear, and lingerie.
I'm starting to work on items for my store, so until I can decide a name for my online store, I will be selling on my Facebook fanpage. I'll give it until the end of November, so please submit your suggestions and the name I choose will win their choice of an item from my store! Thanks for your help =D

I LOVE Quilting!

Well, I am just speeding through my nieces quilt, should be done well before her first birthday unlike her sister's quilt HAHA!!
After I finish her quilt, I'm doing one for my mom in memory of her sister (my Auntie Winnie) who recently passed after an illness. It's a breast cancer awareness quilt, titled Quilt of Many Ribbons. I can't wait to do another quilt for my mom. The first one I made for her was well over 6 years ago, it's actually sitting behind me on the couch =) Was very simple, not as well put together as the ones I make now. Will most definatly post pictures of it so you can see how much I've improved

I'm still on the search for the perfect fabrics for my Bargello quilt...well will be OUR quilt now! My man and I are moving into our own place in 5 days!! I'm always with him anyways, so now all my stuff will be with me, that's the only difference.
Sad news though, pictures will be hard to post, my camera is a wee bit water logged....water bottle in purse incident =( So please excuse the lack of pictures and the lack of quality of pictures I may actually be able to post as they will be from my cell phone. Thanks for reading

ahhh i've been inspired

So, I'm sad to say all my sewing stuff is packed up, and has been for over 3 weeks. I'm moving the end of the month. our new place is going to have a beautiful sewing room for me! full of shelving and outlets and great lighting!!! plus we'll still have 2 rooms (master and a spare)
also when we went to the VIEX this year, I ran into some family friends at an info booth, stopped to chat and found out that her church hosts a FREE quilting get together every Monday night for 3 hours. Mom & I went on Monday, looooovvved it!! What a great way to get all my quilts done! I'm going to get started on some xmas craft fair stuff once I finish the quilt I'm working on.
Very sad to report that my camera got drowned in my purse :( Don't know how the heck I'm going to post up pictures, I guess I'll just have to ask people to send me pictures I take with their camera!

Sorry it's been awhile

Hello everyone!
I know I don't have much followers...YET...but I'm sorry to those of you that read this, I haven't blogged in well over a month! Been busy doing nothing, work is slow, so I've just been puttering around the house.
I've gotten into garter making! Along with that comes an addiction to ribbon, sooooo I made myself a ribbon rack. painted it black, will post a picture once I get it all hung up.

My birthday is coming up, and I've made myself a BEAUTIFUL dress, paid less than $30 for materials. It's in the final stages of fitting right now.
Mending pile is slowing shrinking, now to start using up some of my fabric supply! I can't even think of what to make next...
That purple dress i previously blogged about is all cut out, just waiting to be sewn, I'm so bad for that. Such a waste of fabric if it never gets done, but where on earth am I going to wear a dress to?? Weddings are done, and it's not special enough for my birthday (you will understand when I post the picture!)
Alright, off to sew, just thought I would let you all know I'm still alive =D

progress!!

alright!!! found all my pattern pieces =D now because this is such a fitted top, i decided to make a muslin first, then the pattern. i've never done this before, but decided i should seeing as how i have to lengthen EVERYTHING i make both in the torso and in the finished length.

so yet again, another day where i was up until the birds started chirping, and finally crawled into bed when the sun was coming up lol. i can't help it, once i start on something i strive to finish it, exhaustion finally won and i caved in.

here's all the pieces for mom's purse, i decided to add an inside zippered pocket, and rather than having NO closure, i'm adding a zippered closure so mom doesn't have to worry about stuff falling out or people reaching in

ohhh my

ok call me crazy, we leave thursday for prince george, and i have the sudden crazy urge to make ANOTHER dress!! in fuchsia, a corset style top, with a cute little trim...hmmm, now if only i could find that pattern!
we finally got a working steam cleaner, so hopefully it won't be too much longer until i get my sewing room back in order =) work has been pretty busy, our order of TEN bridesmaid dresses came in, all which need to be fitted and made into halter dresses instead of strapless. woo hoo that means more money for this girl =D
well better go keep hunting for that pattern, it's not gonna find itself, is it?

yay!!

I got my dress & shrug done just in time! still needs a few minor adjustments and alterations to make it 100% perfect, but i have 2 weeks to do that =) as soon as i find my usb cable i will upload some pictures. terry's tie turned out ok, lesson learned-->always make sure the straight of grain is straight! especially if it's cut on the bias. the puckering was on the backside so only me & him knew it was there. however, i did make a tie & pocket square at work, which turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! again will post a pic when i find my cable, don't have a working card reader unfortunately =(
well, just thought i would give an update...some upcoming projects: my new nieces quilt (have less than 2 months to get 'er done!), mom's purse, and start gathering fabrics for my quilt, a bargello quilt...and just need to get pics up for my etsy store

Oooops

Wow, time sure flies by!! had a hectic week last week....
had to put my poor bunny rabbit down, he broke his back, then work was crazy busy with prom...and i just been feeling like hell =(
Went on a fabricland trip today with my co-worker...ohh the fun we had! Got some fabrics to make some ties and pocket squares, such fun fabric. She also introduced to a very bad bad bad area of Fabricland, the remnants bin!!!! buy 1 remnant, get TWO free!!! ohhh so bad, now my fabric pile will slowly start to rebuild.
But that's ok, I got some projects all cut out, waiting to be sewn for my Etsy.com store. I need to get going on that, I need money, work is not easy to get here =(
well, got to go throw some fabric in the dryer and start cutting out some ties & pocket squares. tah tah for now

hooray for progress

I went to visit family on the weekend and worked on some ideas that have brewing for my etsy.com store. I finally got a finalized list of items I'm going to sell =) Just have to finish mom's purse and my dress and I'm going to jump right into these projects.
I'm curious to see how many people read my blog. any suggestions you have for handmade items that would be a popular sell, please let me know.
I haven't been sewing a whole lot at work, I've been doing sales! Should be back to sewing in 2-3 weeks. Perhaps today I should attempt to make a tie, apparently I could make lots of money doing those!
Alright, I'm off to sew, need to fix a pair of pants then get going on momma's purse. Will post pics of it in the works....Also be on the look-out for my Euro-hem tutorial coming soon!

re-discovery!

so i was nervous to go into work today, because i knew i had a suit jacket waiting to be altered...a lined suit jacket *shudders*
well, needless to say, that went verrrrrry well =) i don't know why i'm so unsure of everything i do when sewing! even yesterday my boss had to, i guess, be my cheerleader as i hemmed approximately 7 meters of dress!! i thought about 1/3 of the way through, there's no way i'm gonna get this silly thing done in time, no way. but he was encouraging me. lol i told him he has to stand with my now whenever i'm nervous. it's kinda nice having your own cheering section =D made me realize i don't have to be so unsure and nervous, i know what i'm doing. i think i'm just afraid i'll make a mistake.

sure mistakes happen, but there is also a lesson to be learned with every mistake.

today is mom's birthday, was hoping to have her purse done by now! maybe i should be working on my organization instead of sitting in front of the computer, right?? ok, i'm off to continue the organization. thanks for reading

finally getting started!

well, my sewing stuff has been sitting in a pile for almost 2 weeks now. i have a box of fabrics and stuff to ship off to a friend who loves sewing as much as i do! i just really don't know where to get this all started, i'm not sure where to put everything =(
i have repairs that need to be done, about half a dozen projects on the go, etsy projects waiting to be started...ahhhh, crafter's overload!!!!
ok ok i give, i'm just gonna go jump right in and get started....will post a pic of my sewing area once it's representable....hopefully can start painting at the beginning of may

another day another dolla!

well, got dress # 2 done for work. i thought it was going to be difficult, stretchy blingy beautiful dress, made of stretch knit, ohhh fun!!
well, i had to adjust the straps, and take up the hem & lining. i look at the hem, it's a serged rolled hem. hmm, now how do i do this hem? sure i've played around with my serger, done a rolled hem on a dress of my own, but never on a knit fabric. was interesting to see how to this would turn out. no surprise, absolute success =D

 i'm off to drop these babies off at work. is it bad to say that i'm quite proud of the work i've done lately? i surprise myself some days haha hopefully next week i'll start working on my own dress. pictures will be up for sure of my progress on that one.

i learned something new!

I work in a clothing store that offers tailoring. i took a dress home today to hem because i'm more comfortable fighting with narrow hems in the privacy of my own home and on my own machine...it's quite frusterating!
i remembered, there is a thing called a narrow hem foot, so i checked out all my machine's accessories. no foot! ohhh my heart sank, i really didn't want to fold up 1/4" on a satin dress, and fold under 1/8" on that first fold, ugh, how irritating! so i raided mom's sewing area, and praise the lord i found the foot!!!! haha
i attempted to use it, failed, almost cried because i thought this was the easy route. quit for awhile, came to sit at my computer. i decided to check out youtube for instructional vidoes on how to do a narrow hem. annnnnd SUCCESS :D

now i can do professional looking VERRRRRRRY narrow hems

I’m brand new to the blogging world…not too sure where to start
My main purpose in starting this is to keep myself motivated with my sewing. I’ve been sewing since I was 12 years old and am hoping to make it as a Fashion Designer. I’ve been accepted into Blanche MacDonald in Vancouver, starting September 2010.
I guess I need encouragement with my sewing, and that’s what I’m hoping you can help me with. I’m a Leo, I need praise, haha =) I really do enjoy sewing, I just get so wrapped up in it some days that it’s all I do. I’m going to be starting an online store through www.etsy.com…link will be posted once I have items to sell.
